Actuator for Fan Damper Drive for Boilers and Furnaces

  • Description
  • Photos and Drawings
  • Typical Specifications

M.E.A. utilizes a high performance hydraulic servo in the operation of its actuators.  This means, the speed of the actuator is directly proportioned to the command signal from the DCS or boiler control.

Speed is from 5 seconds per full 90o stroke to 30 seconds per full stroke.  The maximum speed and accuracy has several boiler operational advantages:

  • Improves fuel efficiency due to more constant draft pressure. Draft pressure is held to ± 0.5” W.C. in several plants
  • Reduces NOx Emissions
  • Eliminates fan motor trips due to slow fan damper movement
  • Eliminates boiler implosions

M.E.A. has three (3) types of operation:

  1. Automatic
  2. Manual Hydraulic. Hand valves to open and close the damper
  3. Manual hand pump.  Operate when the main hydraulic power is gone

M.E.A. Electronic Analog System proven for 20 years and Redundant Digital System is proven over 5 years.  Lock in place on the following actions:

  1. Loss of AC power
  2. Loss of control signal
  3. Loss of feedback signal
  4. Loss of hydraulic power
  5. Loss of servo
  6. Loss of tracking

M.E.A. Actuator Systems only require one actuator regardless of torque up to 25,000 ft. lbs. standard and up to 50,000 ft. lbs. special.

M.E.A. Damper Drive Models:

Linear or Rotary       Torque required      Full stroke speed maximum in seconds
3-5k-5-L or R           5,000                       5 seconds
3-10k-5-L or R         10,000                     5 seconds
3-15k-5-L or R         15,000                     5 seconds
5-20k-5 L or R         20,000                     5 seconds
5-25k-5 L or R         25,000                     5 seconds

M.E.A. has furnished high speed (5 seconds) high performance and high torque (25,000 ft. lbs.) for over 20 years.  The results have been outstanding in many installations.  Recently (within last 5 years), the M.E.A. Redundant Digital Control is available to insure 100% reliability.  M.E.A. can offer several models to fit all types of dampers, rotary or linear, small or large.

M.E.A. incorporated Damper Drives consist of two parts:

1. Hydraulic and Electrical Control mounted on the Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU)
2. Actuator which operates the louvers or dampers with three (3) options

  • 90o Crank Rotation Actuator
  • Linear Actuator Vertical
  • Linear Actuator Horizontal
