The most important need for a high performance actuators in a surge control application is during a start up of a FCCU (Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit).  Preventing a blower in going into surge can save many dollars and time.  The ideal surge control actuator has the ability to stroke the valve full stroke in one second under stable control.
