M.E.A UltraSonics II Center Guide System

  • Description
  • Diagram and Photos
  • Typical Specifications

The M.E.A UltraSonics II Center Guide System offers ultrasonic and linear-response technology that eliminates centerline shift, promises the ideal answer for payoff reel control so that strip can be positioned properly on the centerline and provides a low-cost, trouble-free solution for all intermediate steering and guiding on process lines.  The M.E.A UltraSonics II Center Guide System features the first and only offline sensor with nothing above or below the strip. Sensor damage due to strip breaks is eliminated. So trouble-free, parts are warranted for three full years!  What's more, the system installs offline, quickly and easily. There is no need to shut down your line during installation or during maintenance.

Benefits:

  • Measures the centerline of all strip widths within + or - 0.025" accuracy
  • Offers interference-free operation
  • Not a photo-electric device so the M.E.A. system is not affected by ambient temperature variation, ambient light, smoke, steam and oil
  • Signal output is compatible with any and all manufacturer's center guide steering units
  • Handles all materials, opaque and transparent, with a minimum edge thickness to 0.020" -- steel, aluminum, plastic and more
  • Designed to operate over a strip width range 24" to 72"
  • Eliminates the frame for mounting sensors above and below the strip.

Whether a new application or a retrofit of an existing center guide system, the M.E.A . Ultrasonics II Center Guide System lets you replace your sensor – quickly, easily and inexpensively…bring today’s technology to your operation.

Description Of Operation

The M.E.A., Inc. UltraSonics II Center Guide System measures the time elapsed for sound waves from sensor to strip edge; then calculates the signal to provide absolute deviation of width.  Two signals are sent to the controller to compute this width deviation.  Transducers are located at the strip pass line, approximately 9" from the maximum anticipated width.  No part of the sensor system bridges the strips.  Control enclosure contains all electronics for the width system.  The width measurement display is digital.  The digital signal can also be sent to the line host computer.  Installation is simple: just mount the two transducers and connect the electronic enclosure.

NOTE: THE M.E.A., INC. CENTER GUIDE SYSTEM CAN BE COMBINED WITH THE M.E.A, INC. ULTRASONICS II STRIP WIDTH GAUGE SYSTEM USING THE SAME SENSING HEADS (WITH PROPER ELECTRONICS).
